One Price, Everywhere, Which Is Rarer Than It Ought to Be

Rocket Lawyer's registered agent product is priced at $125 for twelve months, and that figure does not move. Not across membership tiers, not between the first year and the second, and our July 2026 check found no introductory rate at any level. In an industry where the headline figure and the renewal figure frequently disagree, holding one price steady everywhere is a mark in their favor and we will say so.

Rocket Lawyer is also a legal subscription platform before it is an agent service. Document templates, attorney consultations, and a library of forms sit alongside the agent product. If you use those things, $125 is not a bad deal at all.

What Else Is In the Box

The catch is structural rather than financial. You are subscribing to a platform in order to occupy one corner of it. A Washington business that needs an address where process can be served, and nothing else, is paying for a legal department it will open twice a year.

That is a fit question, not a fairness question. If the templates and the consultations are things you will actually reach for, ignore the rest of this page and enjoy them. If what you want is the agent seat, keep reading, because Washington gives you two ways to fill it more cheaply and one of them is printed on the state's own paperwork.

Type 3, Printed Right There on the Form

Most states bury the self-appointment option in statute, where you find it only if somebody points you at the section. Washington does the opposite. On the Statement of Change or Designation of Registered Agent, the choices are laid out as numbered types, and Type 3 reads, in substance, that an office or position within the business may serve as the registered agent. The form then supplies examples, naming President or Member as the kind of seat it means.

Read the wording carefully, because the distinction is real. The company itself never goes on the agent line. What goes there is a titled position inside the company, and whoever holds that title on the day a process server arrives is the person taking delivery. It is narrower than "be your own agent" sounds, and Washington explains it on the document you would be filing anyway.

Worth admiring, that. A state agency labeled, numbered and illustrated the choice that costs it nothing and costs every commercial agent here a customer.

What Type 3 Actually Costs You

Zero dollars and three real conditions.

The address has to be a physical Washington street address. Not a PO Box, and not a PMB either; the form rules out the private mailbox by name, which closes the workaround that mailbox storefronts have been used for in other states. Somebody has to be at that address during ordinary business hours, every business day, because a process server does not consult your travel calendar first. And the designation goes into a public, searchable record, so the title, the address, and by extension the person occupying the seat become findable by anyone who looks your entity up.

For a Washington company with a staffed office, a stable address, and no privacy concern, Type 3 is a perfectly sensible answer and we would rather you knew about it than paid us out of ignorance. For a home-based owner, it means publishing where you live. For anyone who travels, it means a delivery window you cannot always cover. Those are the trade-offs, and they are why the third option exists.

The Third Option, At $99

• $125 a year is $26 more than $99, every year, for the identical statutory duty

Worth saying plainly since this page keeps praising cheapness: someone charges less than we do. BetterLegal lists $90. Ninety-nine dollars sits in the same low tier and not beneath it.

Replacing Rocket Lawyer as Your Washington Registered Agent

One document does it, the Statement of Change/Designation of Registered Agent, filed with the Washington Secretary of State on paper or electronically. It has no form number. The state charges nothing, and says so on the form, on the fee schedule, and in the rule that sets the fees.

The ordering point is easy to get wrong here because Rocket Lawyer is a membership. Cancelling the membership does not remove their name from your public record; only the filing does. If you cancel first, you have a registered agent listed with the state who is no longer being paid to answer for you, which is the one arrangement worth avoiding.
